Ah! The original Jace. Not trying to show off much but doing his part.

He’s definitely the control do-nothing type planeswalker. He will net you cards and more often than not be used to kill other bigger Jace’s ( Jace the Mind Sculptor) and sometimes in a more casual setting : Jace, Memory Adept.

You almost always start with the -1 ability to make sure you got your mana’s worth and did not just play him to give you and your opponent a card. From there you can keep -1’ing until you need to +2 to keep the whole thing going. So basically at some point it becomes over the course of 5 turns… draw 6 and your opponent draws 1. This is when you go +2 then -1 till he dies off.

Then again, you can just go -1 all the way through to have a little Howling Mine ability for the first 3 turns. Kinda lame, but not a bad strategy.

A lot of Turbo Fog decks use his + 2 until ultimate to just go for the mill-out win. They utilize things like Howling Mine and Font of Mythos to quickly deplete player’s libraries. Of course, they used infinite Fog effects to slow everything down as well as cards like Cryptic Command to tap down and bounce opponent’s threats. Of course, the massive Eldrazi creatures like Emrakul and Kozilek ruined your day if that was your only route to victory.

A cool redraw is available in the Japanese Jace vs. Chandra Duel deck. In the regular version, Jace Beleren looks less Jace-like and beefier. Not my cup of tea.

Not a very exciting deck eh? Not supposed to be. Just mill and stall….Great!

In EDH, this guy becomes invaluable as he can ‘Group Hug’ people and take some agro/hate off of you. Most people will not mind keeping leaving him on the battlefield as he can potentially help them or their temporary ally. Also, on the bright side, this is along with Chandra the most affordable planeswalker , until they make a random ‘Uncommon’ one. Just kidding!
